About Newbie Author / Dax MacGregor
I’m working on my first second novel and sharing lessons I’ve learned as I fumble my way forward.
I started blogging because I believed others could benefit from the mistakes I’ve made and the information I’ve gathered. But I found that I also benefited by learning the concepts more fully.
I don’t pretend to be an expert. For the most part, I’m sharing information I’ve gathered. When I do, I document the source. On some topics, I’ve formed strong opinions, which I’m not afraid to share.
I love it when others comment on my posts. So whether you like what I say, or you have a different point of view, please tell me. That way, we will all learn together.
Since I poke fun at myself and the stupid mistakes I’ve made, I thought blogging under my real name might hurt my chances of getting published. So,in the beginning, I decided to blog anonymously as Newbie Author.
Later I realized my original reasons for blogging anonymously were unwarranted. However, now that I can see my way to the completion of my manuscript, and I have started to think seriously about getting it published, I noticed that there are four authors with books in print using my real name. Realizing that a new author needs to stand apart from the crowd, I decided I’d need a pen name.
I’ve selected Dax MacGregor as my pen name. Dax now has his own author blog.
Newbie Author received a lot of positive feedback and recognition. For example, Newbie received an invitation to guest blog at Novel Publicity. He’s also been interviewed by Self Publishing Coach. On Twitter, he developed a modest following.
But I know that when I publish, I’ll want my followers to remember the name that will be on the book cover. For that reason, I will be gradually transitioning from Newbie Author to Dax MacGregor.
